THE PORT COQUITLAM DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS , c/o 2567 Shaughnessy Street, PORT COQUITLAM, B.C, 13 March 1978. The Mayor and City Council, The City of Port Coquitlam, City Hall, 2272 iicAllister Avenue, PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. Dear Sirs: The Downtown Merchants, at their most recent meeting, discussed with Alderman Ranger the future of the Downtown core, Iwo items were found to be oF the highest priority; both dealing with traffic. One of the priority items was the extension of one block of the ring road from Marpole Street to Whyte Avenue ‘or, better yet, extended one more block to McAllister Avenue. The other priority item, which is considered maybe . even more important, is the demolition of the old Royal Bank Building. It was felt that the amount of car, truck and bus traffic using Elgin Avenue was high enough to have the road: widened and eliminate anv possible chance of injury at that corner. It was also discussed that the amowmt of rental income that the City would realize over a short term, if they could get a tenant, would not be enough to warrant the traffic congestion at that corner. It was also mentioned that if the City would tear down the building, it would open up the back area and possibly we would get some new development downtown, Be Doffman, for The Port Coquitham Downtown Merchants.
