C, ‘. ea lene vem COUNCIL TO: All Municipelities and Regional Districts MAY 1 1972 ya Dear Sirs: At a recent meeting of the U.B.C.M. Executive, considerable discussion took place on the length of terms of office for elected officials. The subject has been discussed many times during U.B.C.M. annual conventions and a general con~- 9 census of cpinion has been difficult to obtain. Iam directed by the Executive to ask all municipal Councils and regional dis- trict Boards to submit their preference on one of the three following alterna~ tives: (1) for the present legislation to remain in effect; (2) a straight two year term for ell members with elections being held every second year (i.e. all members of a Council or Board remain in office for the same two year period and all cease to be in office at the end of that period; (3) 8 straight three year term under the same conditions as in (2). Your preference on these three possible alternatives will be considered by the Executive and we request that you give this matter your attention so that we can advise Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Campbell. ° Yours sincerely, C.S.J. McKelvey, Executive Director. Corel } ‘itr
