_ A2 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, June 22, 2005. HOUSING Starts so far. this year have already surpassed the number of starts recorded for the entire year in 2004. So far i in 2005; four resi- dential building permits . have been issued for new homes at a combined value of $930,000. That number already exceeds the value... of. last year’s total of three housing. starts that added up to just $432,000: _ City building | inspector. James Weldon says there have been a lot more inqui- Ties about potential building permits . now compared to . last year as well. “There’s been an increase’ ~ in general inquiries for hous- ing development which is a . good indicator for economic stregth,” says Weldon, add- ing until those inquiries turn into. permit applications it’s — impossible to tell exactly what the near future holds. “It is a heck of a lot more positive than last year in terms of potential.” The total value of con- ‘struction permits in Terrace ° is up more than twice as much compared to this time - in 2004. In April alone, nine construction permits were issued for residential and commercial projects valued at $1,529,333, May’s proj-" ects-add up to $1,737,500. - Combined. with permits issued since Jan. 1, -2005 e From front Travel help. “pers Drug Mart renovation DAVID MAIN works.on the frame of a large new home’ on Cooper St. on the bench. it is one of four new housin Building stats climbing g starts so far this year. up The Terrace Standaré Is = "on www.terracestandard.com Check out our site or call 638-7283 for advertising information SARAH A. Construction on that proj- . ect has already begun, while the.Canadian Tire expansion isn’t expected to begin until 4 August. Weldon says small com- ° mercial contruction and varied - residential additions have made up the bulk of the permits issued. But the .next several months could see that trend take a big upswing. And that’s good news 7 compared to the number of projects: ‘commercial starts last year. - 2004 set a new recent low for construction, according to year end figures issued by . the city. Just $5.06 million - worth .of building permits were issued in 2004 — more ‘than 50 per cent down from 2003’s construction total of $10.2 million. Last year industrial, com- mercial and institutional to- tals were also down. One of the larger projects . that got underway was the Seven Sisters adult mental - health facility next to Mills Memorial Hospital, at a val- ue of close to $1.4 million. The city issued two new ° commercial permits - worth just. under $1 million — in- cluding the new Boston Piz- za development on Hwy 16. “The year-end total was worse even than 2000’s.$6.7 million, which had marked the lowest construction tally since the collapse of Skeena Cellulose in 1997. ta ten tae and clearance lights, tire pressure, glass, wiper blades and vehicle fluids all should be checked regularly and -prior to any long distance travel. ~ MN oe Your Local Highway & Bridge Maintenance Contracto 7 ; Ph: (250) 638- 1881 Min Total |'| D Max Min Total i A Temp Temp Precip Y °c 10 20.3 8.2 0.0 11 16.5 .10.1 .0.0 . 12 14.7 9.2 1.6 13 136 82 00//13 149 91 2.6 14 17.2 7.2: 12.2 14 16.8 6.0 0.0 forecaster at 15 19.7 96 0.5 [15 20.2 9.1 0.0. 1-866-640-6369 . 7.3 0.0 Piss oo 16 23.0 8.4 T 16 26.6 Vehicle Condition 4 To minimize vehicle problems while ¢ N traveling, ensure regular maintenance checks are carried out prior to and¢ during any long distance drives to avoid ¢ a break down on the highway. No one has come forward to claim her. Matti would do very well in a home where being inside is not a problem; she is very clean. She's an easy walker . and would be ideal for children. Also, very good with other animals. “Lea” is a six year old spayed female She is a beautiful cat with a really nice disposition. Sadly, Lea was given up due to allergies in the family. She would be a great ¢ pet for a single person or a older couple as ‘ she’s very much a lap cat. If your looking for the cat that has everything already done ~ for you, Lea may be the one.
