Well qualified to serve in the “north, the Victoria native grad- uated from UBC Medical School | in 1970 and has spent most of his professional career in the Yukon and northern British Columbia & communities. Bowering said that following his graduation from UBC he spent one year as an intern at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in _ Montreal and then found his first job. in 1971 with United Keno Hill Mines near Mayo, Y.T., as the company. doctor. _ Late in 1972, Bowering moved to Vanderhoof to serve as a ~-general practitioner for one and a half years at the Omenica Medical Clinic with Doctors A.W. Mooney and Hugh Ste- phens. | ‘His next move was to the Queen Charlotte Islands, where he spent 10 years developing a homestead, raising a family and working in Masset, Queen Char- lotte City and Port Clements as a general practitioner. Bowering said that he had a private practice towards the end of his stay on the Charlottes, and because it. was a family- oriented practice he became in- volved in preventative medicine and counselling which led to his interest in public health. In 1984, Bowering moved to.
