_ JANUARY, 1978 THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER 9 IWA WINTER SCHOOL imately thirty [WA members from all the IWA Local Unions in British Columbia attended the week-long IWA School held in conjunction with the CLC-B.C. Federation of Labour Winter School January 15-20, at Harrison Hot Springs. + IWA Regional Education Director Frank Wall was in charge of the School and Regional 2nd Vice-President Bob Blanchard gave the opening address and attended a number of the sessions. 5 Instructors included Frank Stich, Regional Director of Organization who instructed on Organizing Techniques; Tom Fawkes, Regional Public Relations Director, covered Public Relations and the News Media; IWA Pension Director Jack Washburn discussed the IWA Pension Plan and Tony Van- derheide, Regional Technical Advisor, discussed Job Evaluation and Rate Determination. The Region’s inhouse Lawyer Bob Blasina, was to have in- structed on Grievance Procedure and Arbitration but un- fortunately took ill with the flu which forced Frank Wall to im- provise on the course through the use of tapes on the subjects. The students indicated they were happy with the courses and what they had learned which has proved to be the case with previous students fortunate enough to have attended this annual school.
