Bee INFO-PARENTS Secomstiantaaousee PROVINCIAL MEETING FOR PRESCHOOL EDUCATORS Oe... participants (preschool educators and parents) met in Vancouver during a training and exchange session organized by the Association des parents francophones de la Colombie-Britannique. Preschools educators from Saute- mouton (Victoria), Trotin-Trotinette (North Vancouver) ,la Coccinelle (White Rock), les Petits lutins (Nanaimo) joined the session as well as persons in charge of Mini-Franco-Fun from Victoria, Coquitlam, Nanaimo, Campbell place in Novembre 1994. Considering the success of the event, the participants expressed the desire torenew the experience once a year. During the last meeting on January 20 and 21, the participants attended workshops on songs and music, puppets, tinkering, body expression. They had an opportunity to exchange knowledge and to share their experience with each other. A preschool curriculum has been developped in order to help children learn French more easily. This River, Sechelt, Powell program will be River, Prince George, offerednext year Comox. To date we can find in British Columbia: - 10 French preschool programs for children eligible under Section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms - 11 Mini-Franco-Fun (groups of Francophone parents and children gathering once a week) - several licensed (or not) family daycares Those French programs offered in early chilhood education are essential to pass on the French language and the culture. Indeed, a child exposed to a Francophone education at an early age will with no doubt develop ahigher level of French. And later on, she/he will be more prepared to join a Francophone school. Since several years ago, APFCB provides support to develop these programs. A first provincial meeting took Tire Lire, the provincial educative resources centre of APFCB provides parents and early childhood Francophone educators with educational and pedagogical French resources for preschool- aged children (0-6).
