(Public Works/Traffic Committee Mecting of Oct. 8/93) RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) That Council direct the City Clerk to amend the City Traffic Bylaw #1117 to include the designation of Coquitlam Avenue adjacent to James Park Elementary School as a playground zone so that the traffic speed will be reduced to a maximum of 30 km/hr. 2) That the City recommend to the School District that the District consider implementing 2 school patrol program or an adult crossing guard program as desci:bed in the "Safe Crossings, Guidelines for School Crossings Programs" prepared by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Highway; dated 1993 at Oxford Street and Coquitlam Avenue. That Council direct the Public Works Department to paint "Stop Ahead" complete with an arrow sign on the street for north »ound and south bound traffic on Oxford Street for the Oxford/Coquitlam intersection. BACKGROUND. 1) Letter dated April 29, 1993 and March S, 1993 from Mr. Fridge, previous principal, James Park Elementary School, requesting 30 km/hr playground signs and crosswalk improvements. Memo from Anne Pynenburg dated May 25, 1993 regarding a survey of adjacent municipalities using playground signs at schools. ° Memo from Russ Mammei dated Augusi 23, 1993 containing the recommendations from the Hamilton and Associates/ICBC Study for Intersection Improvements at Oxford and Coquitlam.
