Proposed Busivess Licence Bylaw .
(Protective Services Committee Meeting - November 2, 1994)

That the proposed Business Licence Bylaw No. 2939, attached to Council Agenda, be given first
three readings. | : |

The current Business Licence Bylaw No. 1237 has not been revised since 1973, although, some
‘minor amendments have been made such as "Accessory Home Businesses" and numerous fate
increases. . oe

| The proposed Bylaw has been broken down into three divisions and four schedules, also
.. included is a table of contents which. has been provided for easy reference. a

The Definition section has been amended so as not to repeat definitions listed in the Municipal
_- Act and the Interpretation Act, but does address specific definitions common to this City’s

You. will also note that the Discotheque Regulation Bylaw will be repealed by this bylaw as it
_ has been incorporated as a business not licenced under the Liquor Control and Licencing. Act,

ae ~ Also certain sections of the Traffic Regulation Bylaw have been repealed by. this Bylaw,
particularly, sections relating to the control of tow trucks which should be regulated in the .

~The Offence section has been changed from a maximum of $2,000.00 per offence toa maximum

The Licence Renewal section allows the City to send out an invoice and renewal form on or
-. before November 30 of each year. This section also provides that it is the responsibility ofthe
. Licencee to renew prior to December 31 of each year or their licence will be terminated and they
will be required to submit a new application and pay an additional twenty-five dollar charge. A
‘clause has been added to extend the renewal period to January 31 for the business licence year”
