Igor Zahynacz City Engineer City of Port Coquitlam 2580 Shaughnessy Street Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Dear Mr. Zahynacz: As | indicated in my phone conversation with Mr. Russ Mammel, we have developed a serious traffic problem at Birchiand Elementary School. Parents dropping students off by car have begun using Stratford Street. This is a short street which dead ends on the north side of our schooi grounds. This street is also the access by which parents bring children to the daycare facility situated on the Birchland Schoo! grounds. The fsliowing have been observed: 2 or 3 vans parked at various angles in the middle of the street cats double and triple parked care pulling straight up to the fence and then having difficulty backing out of the congested area | students and parents having to walk through the high traffic area to the school grounds cars left in inconvenient spots for up to 20 minutes | : cars blocking driveways of neighbouring houses. In the interim | have been putting out cones to create a traffic circle. We have also sent a . notice.to parents making them aware of the problem. That has helped alleviate the problem somewhat. , | We are very concerned about the safety of pedestrians in this situation. We are writing to apprise you of the situation and to seek your advice and help in alleviating it. . Sincerely, — Ac J. Richardson Vice-Principal _ at : JR: po
