We feel that this material is sek{-explanatory and makes the point
that the Independent Small Businessman in the nretatl gasoline business
today is fast becoming a vanishing breed. Federal and Provincial
Governments have already been requested to intercede with Legislation as
necessary to return a fair bakanee of competition in the marketplace.

The Automotive Retailers Association, on behalf of the Independent
Gasoline Retailers in Port Coquitlam, respect{ully requests Port Coquitlam
Councte to withhold any action which would allow the Major OL2 Companies
Zo convert to or build new Self{-Serve and/or Keylock gasoline facilities
an Port Coquitlam, for a minimum of twetve months, We also request to be
advised in advance of any PubLic Committee on Council Hearings on this
maiter. During this twelve-month period we expect that Rill 54 (B.C.
Government) and/or additional holding action Legislation will be enacted
and the Port Coquitlam situation would then cease to be a problem.
