May 26th, 1975 Alderman Mabbett commented that in the last three years people who have purchased mobile humes for say, $16,000.00, are selling them for that figure or more, so depreciation of mobile homes is very questionable. Alderman Laking stated he felt that if the City was operating a mobile home park, it would be getting some revenue, and that each municipality should supply places for different types of living. Alderman Ranger stated he intended to introduce a motion later in the meeting to forward to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities with respect to taxation of mobile homes. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That Recommendation No. 1 set forth on Page 12 of the Report of the Housing Committee, City of Port Coquitlam, April, 1975, be adopted. Carried. Alderman Ranger voted against the resolution. 2. Modular Homes: The Committee recommends encouraging the use of modular or factory-built homes in the community. Present By-laws permit these units to come in where they have been inspected and meet our City By-laws; in addition, the Committee recommends that if the City calls for a proposal for building a number of housing units that an alternate be included to enable the modular home manufacturers to bid. Alderman Mabbett, in speaking to the above-stated recommendation, advised that modular homes are C.S.A. approved, meet City By-laws, and can be purchased for less per square foot than conventional homes. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That Recommendation No. 2 set forth on Page 12 of the Report of the Housing Committee, City of Port Coquitlam, April, 1975, be adopted. Carried. 3. Alternatives to Conventional Single Family Housing: The Committee feels that more emphasis should bz placed on encouraging the smaller one or two bedroom "starter" homes, perhaps without basements, that can be designed to seli within the A.H.0.P. requirements. These should be of a flexible design that would permit the house to be expanded as the family grows. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That Recommendation No. 3 set forth on Pages 12 and 13 of the Report of the Housing Committee, City of Port Coquitlam, April, 1975, be adopted. Carried.
