Kermode girls volleyball team it’s a bullding year for the Terrace Caledonia Kermode High School Girls’ volleyball team as coach Clayton Lloyd-Jonas has only two players back from last year. In senior volleyball, Caledonia hosted Prince Rupert’s boys for a six- game series because Kitimat doesn’t have a team this year. Cale- donia won four of the six matches by scores of 15-8, 15-5, 15-3 and 15-13. The senior girls played at Kitimat. After a round-robin series, Kiti- mat was on top, follow- ed by Smithers, Cale- donia, Prince Rupert and Hazelton, in that order. In the championship game, Smithers beat Kitimat 16-14, 15-13. Caledonia won the con- solation final by two games to one over, Prince Rupert, In junior boys’ action at Prince Rupert, Thorn- hill placed first with four wins, no losses. Skeena was next at three and one, followed by Rupert’s Booth at two and two, Kitimat at one and three and Smithers with four straight losses. For the junior girls, Kitimat went through undefeated. Thornhill ‘A’ was runnerup with Booth third, Skeena fourth and Hazelton last. In the Grade 8 boys action at Kitwanga, Skeena downed the host team 15-12, 6-15, 15-7 in the final. Skeena also won the Sportsmanlike Team trophy, In the con- solation final, it was Thornhill over Hazelton 15-12, 12-15, 15-10, Kitwanga placed first in Grade § girls play at Hazelton. Then’ it was Thornhill ‘B’, Thornhill ‘A’, Chandler Park of Smithers and the host team. Kitimat hosted senior boys soccer, and it was Caledonia coming out on top. Caledonia edged Kitimat 2-1 and took Prince Rupert 3-1. In the other game, Kitimat blanked Rupert 5-0. In junior boys soccer at Prince Rupert, Kitimat posted a pair of victories; 6-0 over Skeena and 3-0 over Booth. In the’ other game, Skeena and Booth played to a one-ail tie. It was Prince Rupert’s turn to host cross- country running on the same weekend, and three Terrace runners had good performances. Rupert’s Joe Nelson won the senior boys in 22.30, followed by Skeena’s Dion Orbell in 22.45. For Grade 8 boys, Chad Edmonds placed first in 18,36. David Shepherd was next in 19.37. Both boys are from Skeena. Prince Rupert’s Kirsten Ander- son took the Grade 8 girls run in 20.08. There were no senior girl run- ners. Skeena Junior High School will be busy Saturday when 14 Grade eight volleyball teams will be in tournament ac- tion in the gym, and three junior soccer teams are performing on the grounds, The boys’ side has six teams divided into groups of three for round-robin play, followed by crossover finals. Skeena, Thornhill and Booth make up one section while Kitimat, Smithers’ Chandler Park and Kitwanga make up the other. Other games follow starting at 1 p.m. The girls’ side has eight teams playing a single elimination series with a consolation playoff. Their schedule has Skeena ‘A’ vs. Thornhill ‘B’ at 8:30 a.m.; Thornhill ‘A’ vs. Kitwanga vs. Skeena ‘B’ at 10 a.m.; and Kitimat vs. Booth at 10:45 a.m, Games continue through the afternoon.
