Twelve years is a long time in one’s life, but 1 am confident you will ' always be glad you _persevered and com- pleted this portion of your schooling. A new period of lear- ning is beginning for you; one I trust you will find challenging, as well as Tonight, we, the grads of 1978, are closely united in our feelings of an- ticipation. The world has opened up for us and we must abandon what's familiar and sheltered, to begin a new challenge - ife, Our formal eduation has provided each one of us with a unique store of wisdom, unique because ‘of the. uniqueness of ourselves and our ex- periences. - Yet the greatest knowledge we can take with us is the realization of what we don't know, for only when we can see the intricacy around us, can we begin - to piece together what we've already learned. Then, we can discover where we. stand, and where we tan go. . Without that, our knowledge is useless. The challenges en- Valedictorian Dianne Flury rewarding. All we can hope now is that the past twelve years have served as a pood stepping stone and helped to prepare you for the way of life that lies ead, I would like to wish each and everyone of you the very best and I would. also like to see you become involved in local politics as yeu all have something precious to contribute through your youth and new ideas. Thank you. countered in the past twelve years seem trivial - now, but they once loomed significantly over us. We should thank our teachers, whose per- sistence, patience, and hours of hard work made it possible and whose smiles and jokes lightened the load. Yet, without the un- bending support and incentive flowing from our families, we might not be here today. The words. ‘‘thank-you’’ somehow seem inadequate to express our recognition - but Thank-You! Our friends, who we've leaned on, learned from, and Jaughed with, have also been invaluable. Through them, we’ve begun to discover our- selves in a world full of diversity: ‘Each one of us exists only in relation DAILY HERALD, Caledonia Grad. Supp., July 11, 1978, PAGE 5 ' Grad Committee Worked Hard» The Graduation Ceremonies that took place on June 23 were the result of a lot of hard work on the part of a few people: the Grad the funds for the Grad Ceremonies through grad fees, selling chocolate bars and school buttons, wrapping presents at Christmastime'and other fund-raising schemes. The money raised went towards the ceremonies. For this graduation, the Committee chose the Japanese theme so their decorations consisted of lots of paper cherry blossoms, a pond com- plete with fountain, Japanese lanterns, lots of preenery, and a . foot- bridge. All of these decoralions required the hard work of dedicated people in the school. Also requiring hard work was the dessert and social hour before and after the ceremonies. The Grade 10's and 11's catered to this affair and they deserve a “thank you”. Some cynics wonder if ‘itis all worth it - “I mean, it’s only for a few measly hours’! But I’m sure that any person who went to the Farewell Exercises at Caledonia on Jiine 23, 1978 would agree that those ‘few measly hours” were the begin- ning of a lifetime; in fact, the beginning of 224 lifetimes. In closing, I would like fo thank all the people who helped Graduation, no matter how small their part was; people who made cherry blossoms; people who made the bridge; people who helped decorate; people who helped make . fans; the Grade 10's and 11's who catered to the social hour: the Grade 11 boys who escorted Grads to the stage: and anyone else who helped, even in the smallest way. And special thanks to the. Grad Committee for being inspired - AND ACTIVE. (That includes Sponsor Teachers). | Thank you, and good luck Grads of '78. Now where’s that arrow to one another - Alone, we cease to have per- sonalitles."’ Now we have the chance to express our- selves as we face the world with our desires .and aims. All dreams, whether simple or complex, can be ours if we believe in ourselves and our futures. Hard times are inevitable, yet they are always over- come and without them, the good times wouldn't be so great! As we close our highschool doors and walk in separate direc: tions, 1 hope each one of us finds happiness and fulfiliment.., Be proud you belong to the class of 1978 and remember: ‘We can ... because we think we can!
