WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: AND WHEREAS: NOW THEREFORE: The generation and disposal of waste has become a major concern to Canadians especially when it is discarded as litter, spoiling the beauty of the environment; Waste, when improperly disposed of, pollutes parks, recreational areas, beaches, highways, schoolgrounds and other areas and can cause physical harm to man and animals; The amount of waste can be controlled by the reduction, re-use and recycling of packaging and other components of the waste stream and littering can be reduced by technology, education, streamlined enforcement, legislation and community pride; Local government is concemed with the amount of wasie produced by residents and businesses and wishes to encourage the reduction, re-use and recycling of wastes; Residents and businesses-:can reduce the amount of waste discarded as litter, it is appropriate to appoint the week of May 4 to 10, 1992 as Pitch-In Week in this community and to urge all residents to participate in the Pitch-In Canada Campaign by reducing, re-using, recycling and properly disposing of all waste and by developing a sense of community pride. I, Leonard M.
