~2= sell lots and apply for building permits for properties along unnamed streets, causing confusion for delivery and trades locating the site. A second problem raised by the current procedure is that it has become a source of controversy about what names are appropriate. Consequently, this report is proposing a set of criteria tor selecting street names to resolve the matter and improve the efficiency of the development approval system. . 2. The procedure for street naming being proposed is that developers be permitted to name their own streets provided they follow certain standards. This procedure is being proposed as the most expeditious means cf naming streets, It Is the procedure followed by most municipalities that name rather than number streets. In case of major roads such as arterjal streets and collector streets that serve a wider area, the City wil! retain the power to name those street, because of their importance. 3. The criteria! for naming streets are as follows: -the streets to be named are not continuations of existing streets that are already names -the proposed names are nor duplicates or sound the same as other street names in Port Coquitlam and Coquittam -the proposed names are short and do not include prefixes or suffixes -the proposed names are not slanderous, lewd or contain inuendo- The Criteria are self explanatory as to their rationale being imposed, ie. no duplicate names for public safety.
