THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ‘- 3 - A proposed crossing of the Coquitlam River will. require the approval of the Provincial Water Rights Branch. In dealing with this approval the Water Rights Branch will process the ‘application by involving the Federal Fisheries Department, the Provincial Fish and Wildlife Department, and the Provincial Water Resources Service. In the case of the Water Resources Service, it can be expected that the recently completed Coquitlam River Study will provide the main basis for the design of.a bridge because of the recently established 200 year flood profile, present dyke elevations and locations, and future dyke elevations’ and locations. This will probably result in a structure in excess of 300 féet in length although certainly interior support points could be considered. Should Council wish to proceed with the preliminary design of a Coquitlam River Crossing (either pedestrian, or pedestrian and vehicular), and the obtaining of preliminary cost estimates, it is recommended that the following procedures be commenced: . — 1. The Engineering Department consult with the approp- riate senior government authorities to determine the basic criteria which will govern the design and construction of a bridge. 2. The Engineering and Planning Department investigate, concurrently with 1 above, the most suitable location or locations of the bridge. a ; 3. Proposals be obtained from engineering consultants covering the preliminary design and cost estimates, and the detailed design and tender call of a bridge. , Respectfully submitted, V.G. Borch, P.
