Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That as requested by the Port Coquitlam Area Women's Centre in their letter of September 15th, 1977 the Council herewith expresses its support to their application for a Community Projects Grant from the Ministry of Human Resources. From British Columbia Captain Cook BiCentennial Committee, September 15th, 1977, asking that a committee be established to initiate a celebration in the City respecting the Captain Cook BiCentennial. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the Leisure Activities Committee be requested to investigate the possibility of holding an event in the City to commemorate the Captain Cook BiCentennial. From the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps., Lieutenant G.J. Drakos, September 21st, 1977, asking permission tc sell tickets on the streets to raise funds to enlarge their training programme by the purchase of training aids, teaching equipment, band instruments, camping supplies, etc. Lieutenant Drakos also advised that members would be canvassing door to door and would also be outside the Liquor Store, at the dates and times stated in his letter. The City Clerk advised two of the dates, October 21st, and 22nd, have been allocated to the Firemen for their Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. A short discussion ensued and Alderman Ranger stated he had talked to Mr. Drakos and that perhaps they would be able to do door to door campaigning only on the two conflicting days.
