September 27th, 1976 CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: From Mayor Ed McKitka, District of Surrey, September 10th, 1976, Surrey Mayor McKitka, re stating his view that in attending G.V.R.D. meetings the concerns of proposed new S. Lower Mainland suburban districts do not always relate to those of high density areas, Regional District and requesting consideration be given to attending a meeting for the purpose of formulating a South Lower Mainland Regional District. It was noted that the letter had also been sent to the municipalities of Chilliwack City, Langley City, Port Moody, Abbotsford, Chilliwhack District, Delta, Langley District, Maple Ridge, Matsqui, Mission, and Pitt Meadows. Alderman Ranger pointed out that the Greater Vancouver Regional District was formed some time ago for the purpose of providing, on a collective basis, the water, sewer, hospital, etc., needs of the Lower Mainland and the following motion was then proposed: Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the City of Port Coquitlam not participate in the formulating of a South Lower Mainland Regional District as suggested in a letter dated September 10th, 1976 from Mayor Ed McKitka, District of Surrey. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, a discussion ensued, and while support thereof was generally agreed upon, it was noted some members of Council were not in favour of Regional Districts in general as a level of Government nor, in particular with the Greater Vanccuver Regional District. L.M.P.A.A. re Notice of Meeting- | 1976, being a notice of a meeting to be held at the Minoru Sports Pavilion,Ricnmond-Sept. 30 From the Lower Mainland Parks Advisory Association, September 20th, 719 Granville Avenue, Richmond on Thursday, September 30th, 1976. Alderman Mabbett advised he and Mrs. Mabbett would be attending the meeting and Alderman Laking stated he would be present also. REPORTS: From Alderman E.W. Mabbett, September 23rd, 1976, expressing concern Ald.Mabbett re irresponsible at the apparent increase of irresponsible driving in Port Coquitlam, and drivers recommending a strongly worded letter be sent to the R.C.M.P. requesting a concerted drive be instituted to curb this problem.
