Also in attendance were K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director; Jim Maitland, City Treasurer; B yan Kirk, City Administrator (Item No. 1 only) A CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES That the minutes of the meeting of the Parks Recreat'on Committee held on Wednesday, October 29th, 1985, be taken as read and adopted. & Item No. 1 Hyde Creek Pool Budget Jim Maitland outlined the budget that has been submitted to the School Board for the 1986 school year. He indicated that the budget had gone up from 1985 to 1986 by some $ 20.00. Jim mentioned that the increase was minimal due to the cost saving in electricity and gas consumption which is made possible by the installation of the energy saving device installed in Hyde Creek. Jim pointed out that the School Board is receiving the benefits of the energy saving program and yet they did not participate in the capital purchase of the energy saving equipment at a total cost of $ 15,000. Jim also went over the School Board's share of the pool budget over the past few years: In 1981 there was a strike; 1982, $ 154,748; 1983, $ 158.000; 1984, $ 158,000; 1985, $ 147,402; 1986, $ 147,416. As you will note the cost to the School Board has gone down in the past two years. Jim indicated that he felt when the School Board comes to the Committee in Council Meeting we should listen to them and not make any decisions. Please find attached the 1986 proposed budget for the operation of the indoor pool. Recommendation: That the report be received. CARRIED /2. My wife, Barbara and I are acting as area coordinators for the B.C. Paraplegic Foundation Christmas Appeal for Port Moody, Port and Coquitlam. The appeal is a fund raisingCoquitlam campaign which involves the sale of calendars on a door to door basis. Our role in the appeal is to employ sellers and to coordinate the distribution of the calenders. currently have a distribution office set up in Port Moody. Considering the t'ravelling for Pc'rt Coquitlam residents to come to the time office, find it necessary to set up a location in Port we Coquitlam and we f'eel that the meeting rooms in the Terry Fox Library would provide an excellent locale. Our use of the room would be initially for interviewing prospective sellers, distributing to existing sellers and collection of funds. calenders we In the campaign, the calenders sell for $ 3, with the seller receiving $ per calender (we also a commission per calender) . Of course, the funds raireceive sed during the appeal go to the B.C.
