The clean sweep saw the boys. blast Kitimat Rebels 88-39 and whip Prince Rupert's Rainmakers 89-71. It was a pair of six- point victories for the girls — 58-52 over Kitimat Or- cas and 70-64 over Rupert’s Rainbirds, It was strictly no contest for the Kermode boys against the Rebels. They ran up a 20-8 lead at the quarter and increased it to 40-22 at halftime. Ker- modes than outscored the Rebels 30-2 in the third quarter, Chris McDonald set the pace with a 20-point ef- fort. Trevor Shannon and Garth Schmidt each chip- ped in with 14 points, while Satti Manhas and James McKay had 10 each. Joe Almeida topped Kitimat with 17. It was touch and go for Kermodes against the Rainmakers. The coast boys took a 17-14 lead at the first quarter and held a slim 43-42 margin at halftime. Playdowns held Just prior to the holi- day, five zone curling playdowns were held to determine rinks advancing to competition against outside teams. The Terry Ezaki rink of Prince Rupert used home ice to his advantage in winning two straight mat- ches in the masters’ over-60 men’s zone six best-of-three playoff against Otto Lindstrom of Terrace. Ezaki and mates now travel to the interior finals at Trail from Feb. 6 to 8.. The Greg Collinson rink of Smithers won the six- team junior men’s double- knockout playoff with an unblemished record. He beat Justin Meek of Kit- wanga in his final match and advances to the in- terior playdowns at Trail, Jan. 4 to 6. Christine Ho of Prince Rupert won the three- team, double round-robin junior ladies’ series with four straight wins. Ho goes to Penticton for the B.C. Finals, Jan. 1 to 5. At Terrace, the zone six -- mixed title went to Don Paimer of Smithers in a six-team playoff. Rupert’s Larry Gordon won ‘‘A”’ side while Palmer beat Gordon in the ‘‘B’’ side final to set up an extra game. Palmer won 8-7 and was to meet a zone five winner at Prince George this past weekend. Phil Larue of Smithers beat out Ted Metz of Kitimat to take the Elks zone title. Larue goes to Trail, Jan. 15 for the B.C, Finals. Bantams beat Smithers TERRACE —The Terrace Inland Kenworth Bantams may have trouble winning games in the inter-city league, but they found Smithers Bantams to be their piece of meat in a two-game exhibition minor hockey series on the Dec. 13 weekend.
