He was attract- ed to the west by the Fraser gold rush, arriving in 1859. But after a spell in the Cariboo he settled in New Westminster, ROBSON represent Nanaimo in the first provincial legislature. He declin- ed a seat in the McCreight cab- inet and retired from politics in 1875 for a position with the Canadian Pacific Railway, But in 1879 he was back in New Westminster. He bought another paper and reramed it after his old “British Columbian, in 1982. Elected again to the legisla- ture, he was Provincial Secre- tary, Minister of Mines, and Min- ister of Finance and Agricul- ture. In 1889 he hecame premier and three years later, he died in office.
