Eng., FILE: PWC City Engineer SUBJECT: KINGSWAY WATERMAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT (Poblic Works Committee Meeting of June 8, 1993) RECOMMENDATION: 1) That Counci authorize the installation of a 10" watermain to replace an existing 6” watermain on Kingsway between the Coquitiam River Bridge and Bedford Street at an estimated cost of $291,000. 2) That $291,000 be allocated from the 1993 Water Utility Capital Fund for this purpose. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: It is proposed to install a 10" watermain on Kingsway Avenue between the Coquitlam River Bridge and Bedford as shown on the attached Plan 1 and as described in the attached memorandum from the Project Engineer dated June 8, 1993 at an estimated cost of $291,000. Kingsway Avenue between the Coquitlam River Bridge and Bedford Street is to be widened this year to four lanes with sidewalk, curbs and gutters. It is proposed to reconstruct the watermain prior to the road construction work. The existing 6" -vatermain is a cast iron watermain which has a record of four watermain breaks in the last two years and this watermain is over 30 years old.
