Services - Regional Strategic Plan FROM: Carlos Felip Director of Planning RE; Yask Force Report on Regional Mandates for Land Use and Transportation Planning - December 19, 1992 Plmaming and Developwent Committee — January 19, 1993 RECOMMENDATION ; That the GVRD Board of Directors he informed that the City of Port Coquitlam supports the recommendation of the Task Force, to seek legislation to prepare, adopt and implement a Regional Strategic Plan for Greater Vancouver, provided that: 1. The Regional Strategic Plan be prepared in close consultation and cooperation with member Municipalities; 2. The Regional Strategic Plan receive approval by each local Council; 3. Subsequent changes to the Regional Strategic Plan after adoption may be made with the approval of the local Council, and not necessarily with the approval of the GVRD board; and 4. Any subsequent changes to the Regional Strategic Plan proposed by the GVRD be conditional upon approval for every local Council or Municipalities affected by the changes. BACKGROUND: On January 18, 1993 the Municipal Council discussed a report prepared by the Planning Committee on the referenced Task Force report. In the course of the discussion, members of Council suggested that the Coumittee should consider the advisability of hoiding Public Information Meetings on this item and expressed views leading towards a wider overview of the functions of the GVRD. weed !
