THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY GF PORT COQUITLAM ae COUNCIL APR 25 1983 TO: Mayor & Council. : April 20, 1983. FROM: ; Administration Committee. B. Kirk, : City Administrator. SUBJECT: Dry Cleaner Sewer Rates. J. Fraser, Deputy Treasurer. RECOMMENDATION: That the classification dry cleaner be removed as a seperate classification within the sewer rates by-law and added to the miscellaneous section at the end of the rates schedule. N BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: ‘ For the past number of years we have had a seperate classification in our sewer rates by-law for dry cleaners ($26.75 per month) at a rate significantly above the rate for stores ($7.75 per month). As you are aware, most of our sewer‘rates are based upon water usage and I assume that when the dry cleaners rate was set up a few years ago most. dry- cleaners had washing machines as well, which did require higher water usage. Upon inspection, we can confirm that the five dry ‘cleaners in town are in fact 'dry' cleaners.and we can see no reason to charge. dry cleaners a higher rate than any other store. The recommended change would reduce the dry cleaner sewer rate from $26.75 per month to $7.75 per month and would affect the five dry. cleaners presently in town. The loss of this revenue will not significantly affect the operation of the sewer utility. ha J.
