Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Aiderman Traboulay: That Council's congratulations be expressed to the May Day Committee for a successful May Day celebration. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Traboulay suggested May Nay be declared an annual event. Mayor Laking advised a report will be prepared for the June 16th, 1980 agenda. Alderman Ranger commented regarding the gas tax imposed for transit on outlying service stations in the Lower Mainland area and Mayor Laking advised the Greater Vancouver Regional District had unanimously defeated a proposal co allow some areas to be exempt from the program and advised it was the general opinion of the Board members that everyone be required to participate in the gas tax program. Alderman Gates stated he received a complaint from the resident at 850 Victoria Drive that garbage had been dumped In the lane and to date it had not been removed. The City Administrator advised he will check with the By-law Officer regarding this. Alderman Mabbett advised he had attended a G.V.R.D. Labour Relations seminar and stated there will be an additional seminar on July 23rd, 1980 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Alderman Wright commented regarding the vacant office space in the Port Recreation Centre and Mayor Laking advised the Parks and Recreation Committee wlll be preparing a report to Council regarding this. Alderman Wright commented regarding the problems with the air conditioning in the Port Coquitlam Library. The City Administrator advised he has contacted the owner of the building regarding this and will look into it further. Alderman Wright expressed concern regarding the apparent Increase in the crime rate and suggested that a meeting be held with the Sargeant Jn charge of this zone. Mayor Laking stated he would look into setting up a meeting with Council and Inspector Davis of the R.C.M.P. and the officer in charge of this zone to discuss this.
