Minutes~May June 2nd, 1975 Land Use Contract No. 12 is being processed as a replacement for Land Use Contract No. 9 (of which Notice of Public Hearing was given on November 28th, 1974) and Land Use Contract No. 9 did not receive final approval of the Council and will not be further processed, No one was present to speak for or against the foregoing proposed By-law No. 1380. The Public Hearing concluded at 7:33 p.m. and the regular Council meeting then commenced. CONFERMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on May 26th, 1975, be taken as read and adopted. Carried. CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: Dept.Attorney-Gen. From Mr. W.D. Stewart, Departmental Solicitor, Department of the SPCA- sign re pet owners' Attorney-General, Victoria, May 28th, 1975, replying to a letter received from the City dated April 23, 1975 wherein a resolution passed by the Council on April 2ist, 1975 concerning Firearm Legislation was set forth, and advising that the Attorney-General recognizes and supports the legitimate use of certain firearms by competent and responsible sportsmen; however, it is the indiscriminate, irresponsible, incompetent, mentally unstable or criminal user which causes concern and that they will continue to press for reforms in this area. The letter was then ordered received and filed. From the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, May 20th, 1975, concerning Animal Control, submitting an outline of a sign that will be prominently displayed in the local SPCA shelter to inform the public of their responsibilities, and requesting that such a sign, to be provided by the Society, be displayed in the City Hall, preferably in the area of the Licensing Department. In speaking to the letter from the Society, the City Clerk advised that a reproduction of the sign mentioned therein will be displayed in an article of the City's next Newsletter soon to be published. Alderman Ranger suggested that the sign be posted on the bulletin beard at the front entrance of the Gity Hail; however, the City Clerk pointed out that the sign would have to be of an appropriate size to be posted on
