It is a drift tunnel) en the 100 foot level, ‘which, when it goes under the main showings on the fifty foot level, will give a depth of some 200 feet on the ore,’ The Mohawk is the first property to be taken up by the Federal people in this district and it was taken after Mr. . Lewis had spent three weeks on the ground and gave it a very thorough examination. He told the Herald that he Hkes it and that he anticipates get- ‘some very fine velnes. at depth and that he will develop a tonnage of ore in the next six months that will war- rant a mill, One of the chief engin- eers of the company will visit New Hazelton in n couple of weeks. , After the present work on thé 100 foot level’ is completed work will be {started on the 500 foot Ievel.and this tunnel will be continued for about 1000 feat. Everything will be done to prove the ore body and to. put the mine in shape for a long per- iod of production once the mill is in- stalled. Mr. Lewis says that this is ‘lone of the finest countries to work in he has yet been in, There are no ob- stacles that need to bother-anyone nt all seasons of the yerr work can be enrried on without interruption. He fully expects to take up two or three other properties in the district for his eompany and make this his headquar. ers in future. He will be ‘bere now all stiimicr, excépt for a couple of weeks that he has to visit another camp. Ip the meantime he ‘will have the work lined up so that there will be no inter- ruption during his absence, To Build Road To the Babine — Mining Comp. Fisheries Dept. Are Interested In ‘Trout Fish’ ‘The Dominion Department of Fish- eries is beginning to pay some natten- tion to the trout and other game fish in British Columbia waters: In the past practically all the attention of the officials was devoted to the salmon. But game fish of all kinds have prov- en to be an asset that is-worth preser ving. Last aveek end C., Hearn of the Lakelse hatchery and GC. W. Harrison of Vancouver, chief inspector, spent 2 number of days in Hazelton and were guests at the Ominecn “Hotel. C., W. Dawson, one of the grent exponents of fly fishing as a sport, accompanied the visitors to ‘Dutchman’s Lake, . twenty- four milés up tlie Kispiox and then ly fishermen will go) to Inapect: the trout in that lake. They case in thelr line from shore and the. first cast Bud got one; He cast again and some kind of an‘inland lake monster grabbed the fly, hook, Jeader and part of the line, lenped into the air, flapped its tale and hit for deeper’ water. Bud put on an- other fly and after two.casts he hooked his second fish successfully. The viss- tors were very much impressed with the quality of the fish and the ap- parent ‘number of them iu. the Inke. For some time the month of the creek which serves as an outlet to the lake has been blocked up to such an extent that the fish ernnet get out or in and it is feured that they may be- come desensed. It is hoped that the department will consent to having the blockade: blown out and thus preserve one of the best fish lakes in the inter- lor. Thos. B.
