To: Members of Council ; October 31st, 1973. from Mayor Scott re:, : Regional Board Meeting - cont'd, Page - 2 - I am also prepared, subject to the agreement of the Regional Hospital District, to authorize your Society to plan construction of a 75~bed Extended Care Unit to service the requirements of your area." The Advisory Committee has reviewed this communication fron the Minister. The proposal to develop initially 150 acute beds, with provision for future expansion is entirely acceptable to the Committee. The deletion of obstetrical facilities is in keeping with the Obstetrics-Neonatal and Gynaecological Services Report which the Board approved in May of this year. The provision of a basic 75-bed Extended Care. Unit is also in line with the proposals in the Region's er " Report on Extended Care. In light: oF this the Advisory Committee recommend concurrent approval of the Minister's proposal, Prrr ere Ty ° ee This report was tabled by the Board pending clarification on whether the original structure would be a "shell" for the potential total of 225 beds as stated verbally by the Health Minister at the August meeting or as stated in the report that there would be two "separate" units. TRANSPORTATION: ‘ On October 10, the members of the Executive Committee and Transportation -Committee met in Victoria with The Honourable James Lorimer and The Honourable Robert Williams to discuss various means of financing transportation on the Lower Mainland. On Oc* ober 17, the two Committees met to réview the results of the meeting and to prepare further recommendations for the Board. At the meeting on October 10, the Government reiterated its demand that the Regional District's contribution to the operating deficit of the transportation system take the form of a levy on the municipal property owner. The members of the Executive Committee and Transportation Conmittee do not agree with this approach and recommend that the Board again endorse the recommendation made jointly to the Board on May 2, 1973 by the Executive and Transportation Committees ~ namely: eeoeescont'’d.
