The following Shrine members of the Terrace Shrine Club 18 residing either in Terrace or Kitimat have been. elected to the following offices: President, Alex Inselberg, Terrace;. Vice President, Jack Ireland, Kitimat, Secretary, Bill Reynolds, Terrace; Treasurer, Bill Walters, Terrace; Auditor, Dave Duguid, Kitimat, Auditor, Bill Richkum, Kitimat. It was decided by the new Executive for the year 1977, to continue with the once a month, last Thursday of every month, bingo games. in the Terrace Arena banquet room, to raise funds for the crippled and burned: children of our area. At this moment, the Terrace Shrine Club has a total of 18 children in care. The territory of the Terrace Shrine Club covers Highway 16 from Burns Lake to Kwinitsa and Kitimat, with surrounding communities, also the Nass Valley. As example, one boy from South-bank, near Burns. Lake, went on January 4 to the Shrine Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The Terrace Shrine, Club is always on the lookout for children in need of treat- ment. The Shrine Hospital accepts children up to the age of 16 years with burns and children who are crippled through muscular or bone diseases. Tran- sportation for these children in Shrine Hospitals, in- cluding parents, if _necessary, is all paid for by the Shrine Club. If you do know, or have a child that would fall in one of the above listed categories why don’t you contact any of the Shriners you know, or who are listed above for ossible assistance and elp. There were 24 Ordinary Members, three Associates, two L.A. members, five Ordinary Members from Branch 250 in Kitimat and one Ordinary member from Branch 24 in Edmonton present. The draw was won by Associate Member Mary Stevens who in turn donated the gift to the Kitimat Branch. It was carried unanonymously to renew six Honorary Memberships. Two applications for Or- dinary membership, seven applications for Associate membership and nine ap- plications for Fraternal Affiliate membership was accepted. One transfer out of the branch was noted. Kinsmen Mothers’ March 1977 The polio epidemic of 1944 which tragically disabled a great number of men, women, and children in B.C. gave rise to the birth of the Kinsmen Rehabilitation Foundation. After the development and wide use of the Salk Vaccine, polio was no longer a threat to the people of the province. But. the -work of the Foundation was extended to aid ail physically handicapped whose particular needs were not met by any private or government agency. The Foundation’s prin- cipal source of income ce. But. the victims. of. the epidemic remained. And. comes from the annual Kinsmen Mothers’ March. Taking place January 30 to February 5, 1977, the March represents the combined efforts of 76 Kinsmen Clubs of B.C., over 2,000 par- ticipating Kinsmen and Kinettes, and over 20,000 volunteer marchers who will be calling on their neighbours throughout the province.
