THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER 1-367 MEMBERSHIP MEETING | A general membership meeting of Local 1-367 was convened in Mission on July 30, 1966. Regional Second Vice-Presi- dent Del Pratt in his address to the meeting remarked on the accomplishments of the Regional Council over the past year and dwelled on such subjects as B.C. Coast rate re- visions in sawmilling and log- ging, planermen rate revision, electrician and _ millwright training programs, the Nem- etz report—its special benefits ‘to coastal plywood workers and travel time for loggers— and the threat of automation to the membership as a whole and to the loggers in particu- lar. Speaking on the present contract negotiations in Ques- nel and on Southern: Interior rate revisions he remarked: “The Southern Interior lum- ber operators are on a colli- sion course if they do not come to grips with the senti- ments of their employees re- garding the present discrep- ancies when comparing the Southern Interior category rates with those on the Coast.” In his report to the mem- bership Local Union Presi- dent Glenn Haddrell spoke on the ‘“aboslute capitulation” by Canadian Forest Products Ltd. regarding the re-estab- lishment of the marshalling point at the Harrison Mills Logging Division. It was also refreshing to hear that the crew’s legal strike action had greatly contributed to a change in that company’s pol- icy in regard to summer vaca- tions. Formerly no employee of the Harrison Mills Logging Division was allowed to enjoy summer vacations with his family, whereas of now appli- cations for that purpose are being received and consid- ered. The membership decided to have the Local President ap- point a business agent during the temporary absence of ART COREY, Financial Secretary, and Jack Theriault, Recording Secretary, busily at work during Local 1-367 general membership meeting held July 30.
