ae oe THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM a] 3. Storm sewer and widening of Prairie Avenue from Cedar Drive to Newberry Street - the storm sewer is required in order to allow a sidewalk to be installed on the north side of Prairie. An overlay is required on the existing road in order to strengthen it as the road condition study shows a very weak base. The justification to the Ministry of Highways would be that we would widen the road at the same time as this is the only way that they would provide cost-sharing. Cost Est. $173,000. The total estimated cost of the three items is $465,000 of which approximately 50 per cent would be recovered if grants are approved for ali three. The Committee recommends that applications for cost- sharing be made for all three projects. Should further budget ‘discussions indicate that one or more of the projects cannot be. undertaken this year, the application can always be withdrawn. ITEM II Re: Access to Poco Auto Centre at 2773 Shaughnessy Street Access to the above is off a narrow road which runs parallel to the underpass on the west side of Shaughnessy Street. The owner has complained that often his customers cannot get through the access road because of parking in front of the tire discount store. It appears that some of the customers to the tire discount store do not realize that they are blocking the access. The Committee recommends that no parking at any time be implemented on the underpass side of this narrow road so that access to the Poco Auto Centre can be maintained. The Committee is also concerned about the heards of entering Shaughnessy from this narrow road. The angle of the entrance plus the restricted visibility and high traffic volume from the underpass make it very difficult to enter Shaughnessy Street at this point. There does not appear to he an immediate solution to this problem but the Committee does suggest that the City should attempt to buy these properties if they become ; available so that the access can eventually be closed. ITEM IIT Re: Hazardous Curve on Columbia Avenue The Committee considered a letter dated October 19th, 1979 and addressed to Council from Irene Cobb of 1490 Columbia Avenue complaining about the hazardous curve. The problem appears to be that cars coming down the hill are travelling too fast to ‘make the corner even, though there are warning signs in advance J eeee
