Exciting Experiences in China J ourney

AMONG the visitors in Hazelton this vieek were Dr. C. W.Service
and family, who have been’ ‘the guests.of Dr. and Mrs. Wrinch

at the Hospital. ~ Dr. Service; who with his wife and children, are
spending a Jengthy ‘furlough in Canada, arrived recently from
Chengtu, the’ principal city of Szechwan, China, where Dr. Service
was stationed. Their trip through China was- both . arduous and
perilous, ag is instanced by the fact thal’ the party had tobe carried
in chairs from Chengtu to Suining, a-five-day journey, and from|.
then on had to travel through a robber-infested ‘eountry along a
river, in smal] boats. Arriving at Chunking, six days after, they
experienced great diffeulty.in obtaining a houseboat, as an advanc-
ing army had commandeered most ofthe boats. . ‘fhe party came
- through their jouiney witnout misadventure, however, and reached|
Ichang, and from thence proceeded by steamer to Hankow, where
they sailed for Shanghai, and.then for Japan and Canada, -
