Célébrer la francophonie des accents!

Si Fannée 2013 marque la 24*"° édition du Festival dété francophone de
Vancouver, et que nous sommes tout prés de son 25* anniversaire
qui se tiendra en 2014, rien ne dit quil faut attendre une année avant de
célébrer et de faire les choses en grand. Cest pourquoi nous avons profité
de toutes les occasions qui se sont présentées 4 nous pour vous concoct:
er une programmation trés relevée au niveau de la qualité des artistes et
de la diversité des genres musicaux. Sil y a un fil rouge qui sert délément
conducteur entre les différentes parties de la programmation, il y a de
toute évidence, cette année, la richesse des accents de la francophonie. Du
louisianais et cajun Zachary Richard au gaspésien Kevin Parent, du
fransaskois Shawn Jobin aux artistes originaires de la Suisse, Anna
Lumiére (Anagram) et Samuel Sixto (qui ouvrira le festival en compagnie des
vancouveéroises Myriam Parent et Ingrid Rondel), de la musique arabisante
du Moyen-Orient et de [Afrique du Nord de Sokoun Trio a Monsieur
Balthazar, acadien dorigine qui offrira aux enfants un univers onirique mélant
le conte, le fantastique et la musique, les artistes de la 24®”* édition du Festi-
val dété conjuguent la langue francaise sous plusieurs accents, a image de la
communauté francophone et francophile du Vancouver métropolitain.
Cette diversité se retrouvera dans les styles musicaux, de la musique pop folk
au zydeco cajun, du mariage du jazz et de la musique du monde, sans ou-
blier une soirée entiérement dédiée au hip-hop, dont celui électrisant des
« Dead Obies », le groupe émergent de l'heure dont tout le monde parle a
Montréal, et que nous invitons grace 4 un nouveau partenariat avec le
prestigieux concours montrélais Les Francouvertes. Oui, en 2013, le Festival se
place a l'heure de la découverte, pendant que lon vous prépare déja de belles
surprises pour 2014...

Celebrate the many accents of Francophonie!

This year marks the 24” season of the Festival dété francophone de Vancouver, and |
thatmeans that the 25" anniversary in 2014 is fast approaching. But itdoesn’t mean
we have to wait another year before celebrating things in grand style So we have
taken every opportunity that has come our way to puttogether a program with the
highest quality of performing artists and diversity of musical genres. If there is one
theme that runs through the different parts of the programming this year, it would
have to be the many accents of Francophonie. We will have Cajun artist Zachary
Richard from Louisiana, Kevin Parent from the
Gaspé region in Québec; Shawn Jobin from
francophone Saskatchewan, and hailing originally from Switzerland we
will have Anna Lumiere (Anagram) and Samuel Sixto. Samuel will open the
festivalintandem with Vancouverartists Myriam ParentandIngridRondel(whogrew
up in British Columbia). The Sokoun Trio will bring us the rhythms andaccents ofthe | -
Middle East and North Africa, while Monsieur Balthazar, of Acadian origin, will invite |
children into his fantasy world of storytelling, imagination and music. Allin all, the
artists of the 24" edition of the Festival dété speak the French language with many |
differentaccents, ina true reflection of the francophone and francophile community
of Greater Vancouver. The same ranges also found in the diversity of musical styles, }
from pop folk music to Cajun zydeco, from the marriage of jazz and world music |
to an evening entirely dedicated to hip-hop, featuring the ‘Dead Obies’ an
electrifying group that is emerging on the scene and taking Montreal by storm.
They have been invited to perform at the Festival dété thanks to a new partnership
with the prestigious Montreal music competition, Les Francouvertes. Yes, in 2013, |
the Festival will be a time to discover and enjoy the many accents of Francophonie
even as weare working on some wondertul surprises for 2014...
