Alderman Laking advised he had a number of calls requesting a notice be included with a future mailing to residents to the effect that permits are required for alterations, additions, etc., as it appears there is such construction being undertaken without permits being obtained therefore, Alderman Mabbett drew attention to the unsatisfactory state of sidewalks in front of commercial establishments in the downtown area follow- ing the recent snowfall, and stated he felt the By-law Officer should charge those offending under the provisions of By-law No. 1118. Alderman Mabbett referred to proposed construction of Shaughnessy Street to Chester Street, and he suggested that the City Engineer make provision in the budget for construction of a sidewalk in what will be a particularly busy area along Chester Street. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay advised that he had noted the official plaque missing at the Hyde Creek Centre, and that he had been informed by the City Administrator that the Centre had been broken into ~ possibly early Sunday morning, and the plaque stolen; however, the matter has been reported to the police. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay inquired as to the progress being made with respect to a meeting with officials of the Huntington Rubber Company of Canada, to discuss plans for their property, and the City Clerk advised that arrangements have been made for Mr. C. Nichols to appear before Council next week. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay referred to a memo circulated by certain employees of the City Hall re parking, and he inquired whether a meeting had been held with respect thereto. The City Administrator advised of his understanding that Mayor Campbell wishes to approach the Union directly and discuss the matter with them. Alderman Mabbett advised that Mayor Campbell had informed him he would like to discuss the matter with Council after he returns from his trip. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay advised that Mayor Campbell is presently in White Horse and will be back for the December 8th Council meeting at which time Inspector Young will be in attendance with respect to the Curfew By-law.
