RECOMMENDATION :

That Mr. George Laking, representative for the Sky Dragon Restaurant, be
informed that Council could not support the rezoning of 1550 and 1558
Prairie Avenue to permit commercial uses.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:

On March 30, 1993 representatives of the Sky Dragon Restaurant attended
the Planning Committee to request support for the Rezoning of 1550 and 1558
Preirie Avenue to permit commercial uses. The purpose was to expand the
commercial building currently occupying 1538 and 1542 Prairie Avenue.

The delegation indicated that there were some questions as to whether or
not they could acquire the property at 1558 Prairie Avenue; and they noted
that the balance of the block, up to Vincent Street, was being considered for
Development of one apartment building.

The Planning Committee, by a letter of March 31, 1993 (copy attached)
informed the delegation that they could not support their proposal.

On Monday, April 26, 1993, Mr. George Laking and Mr. William Leung came as
a delegation, this time to Council in Committee, to again request support for
the rezoning of the above mentioned properties. Council requested the item be
referred back to the Planning Committee to clarify whether or not this
property had ever been designaced under the Official Community Plan for
commercial uses.
