RICHMOND ——— The little Richmond school is alive and well. The students have made considerable progress since the beginning of the year, apparently enjoying themselves immensely. This is ng $A surely thanks to the efforts of As- a. sistant Principal Louisette Bilodeau and her team—all three of whom are devoted to the program, and highly appreciated by the parents. We would like to take this opportunity to thank these people from the bottom of our heart! ' _._“) The parents’ committee continues to work hard. This is a small, uni- que team that involves all of the parents. Regardless the function— 4° 4 children’s bi-monthly hot meal, the “@ | recruiting booth at the shopping —{ centre, fundraising, open houses, and other agenda items—everyone continues to lend a hand. Kassey Asselin Bouchard and Ms Bilodeau As of September 2002, grades 2 and 3 will be added to the existing Kindergarten and Grade 1| classes. Recruitment is our top priority. Although the school year will be over, we will be painting children’s faces and selling maple products at the Steveston Salmon Festival on July 1. We would also like to thank the FPFCB for its support for the organized activities in which we continue to participate. Danielle Alie, APE President PORT COQUITLAM Under the guidance of our Principal, Marc Jalbert, the Des Pionniers school year ahs been extremely active. Unfortunately, Mr. Jalbert will be leaving us at the end of the year to return to La Belle Province. We are extremely grateful to him for his success in strengthening our secondary school program. Following numerous consultations with parents and students, Mr. Jalbert implemented a program of social, cul- tural, and sporting activities that are designed to meet the needs of our children. The students will continue to select course options for 2002-2003. Options will include a course in equestrian care. We recently learned that nearly all of our high school students will remain with us next year. To encourage students to fi- nish Grade 12 with us, Mr. Jalbert has also established a bursary for graduating students. Thank you, Mr. Jalbert! We extend a hearty welcome to Ms Nicole Chagnon, who will replace our director. Ms Chagnon will leave her current position as CSF Director of Student Services to contribute to the development of Des Pionniers School. Welcome, Ms Chagnon! Solange Bernier, APE Secretary APE NEWS — PRINCE RUPERT Both groups from the northwestern BC francophone pro- gram (Prince Rupert and Terrace) met recently to celebrate a cultural day with a visit to the sugar shack in Kitimat. Students, parents, and teachers thoroughly enjoyed a deli- cious sugaring-off supper as they chatted in French about anything and everything to anyone willing to listen, and sa- voured the delightful flavour of maple taffy. Under the watchful and, of course, approving glance of Prince Rupert parents and students, and to the tune of A Ja claire fontaine, the students from Terrace sang of their pride in being able to study in French. All in all, it was a totally agreeable day...and a sunny one—a well-deserved surprise for francophones from the northwest. Francine Masse, teacher COMOX March was fairly quiet in Comox. In fact, I think there were more holidays than school days! We celebrated Francopho- nie Week with a spelling bee for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Winners earned gift certificates from Scholastic. On the Wednesday, while the older students from grades 4, 5, and 6 went snowshoeing, the younger children (Kindergarten to Grade 3) enjoyed an afternoon pyjama- film party, in French. To finish the week on a high note, we organized a pancake supper for all. Students enjoyed pancakes and syrup and everyone left for the school break with a smile on his or her lips. Eric Monette, APE President ROSE-DES-VENTS VANCOUVER The Rose-des-vents School parents’ association in Vancou- ver would like to invite you to the school’s annual silent auction.
