Assumptions: l. For both plastic bag and blue box method of curbside collection. 50% of the Single Family and Multi Family units will participate in the recycling program on a weekly basis. For the plastic bag method, one truck and two persons would pickup 1,250 bags of recycled materials in one eight hour day. For the blue box method, one truck and one person would pickup 600 boxes of recycled materials in one eight Nour day. Description of Collection Methods: Plastic Bag The homeowner purchases the bags at local stores (retail prices approximately $2.00 for 10 bags) and can place the bag of recycled materials at the curb at the same time that the household garbage is placed at the curb (on a weekly basis). A three tonne truck with one driver and one person for loading would pick up clear plastic bags from the curbside. Once the truck is full (approximately 300 bags) the truck hauls the bags to the closest GVRD processing site, and the GVRD would sort, process, and market the materials. Blue Box: The City provides the blue box containers to residents who place the filled containers at the curbside at the same time that the household garbage is placed at the curb. A truck with one person who is the driver and loader stops at each residence, the operator sorts the recycled material into three separate bins (mixed paper, newspaper, and nixed containers). When the truck is full the operator drives to the GVRD processing plant for further sorting and marketing. Cont'd /3...
