Chong, P.Eng., Deputy City Engineer/Operations Manager SUBJECT: Replacement of Community Coordinator's vehicle Oe me ee em eo oe ne ee a Further to the City Treasurer's: memo dated April 27, 1987 on this subject, the Following intormation is provided in response To some of the questions raised during the regular Council meeting of May 4, 1987. In addition to the need for a new or rebuilt engine at an approximate cost of $1,300, the following items are expected to be required jn the. very near future. 1. Repairs to radiator - there is a leak developing which will eventually mean replacement, Two new tires are required to replace the front set. The transmission is original and no major work has been done to it to date. With the unusually high mileage (125,000 km.) for this vintage of vehicle major repairs will be inevitable soon, These three items are expected to cost over $1,000. Adding this figure to the cost of replacing the engine, we wil be looking at a repair bil! in the order of $2,500. As to why The vehicle was not included in the 1987 budget, it has been the policy of this .department to hold off as long as possible before requesting Council! to replace any vehicle. Since the vehicle was only 6 years old at the time the budget was prepared last fall and because there was no indication of any problems with the engine at that time, the replacement of this vehicle was not considered a priority over other equipment replacements. The date of The last service check before the recent revelation of the problems with this vehicle was December 10, 1986. The normal service checks for this type of vehicle and comments from the driver did not indicate a oroblem with the engine at that time either. The reason that the replacement of this vehicle has been brought before Council is a decision made by myself.
