From the Fire Prevention Officer, March 4th, 1976, concerning an applica~ tion for a Fire Permit to burn on property situated at the South-east corner of Hastings Street and Davies Avenue, legally described as Lot 91, Plan 3158, and recommending that issuance thereof be approved. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the application dated March 2uc, 1976 for a permit to burn at the South-east corner of Hastings Street and Davies Avenue, legally described as Lot 91, Plan 3158, be denied. Defeated. Aldermen Keryluk, Ranger, and Traboulay voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Traboulay observed that the Fire Prevention Officer made no supporting statement in his report on the application and Alderman Mabbett commented that the type of trees involved in the clearing of this property were largely of the cottonwood variety which are very hazardous to burn. The Fire Chief advised he had informed. the: applicant ‘that permission would not be granted to burn cottonwood trees; however, the applicant had explained to him that it would be mostly branches that had to be burned. Alderman Traboulay pointed out that the By-law does not permit open burning that officials of the City's Fire Department seem to want to support; however, he stated he would not be opposed to burning required to be done cn farms in the rural area of the City. Members of Council then agreed with the suggestion of Mayor Campbell that no action be taken with respect to the three other applications for burning permits submitted by the Fire Prevention Officer for consideration this evening. BY-LAWS : The City Clerk advised that as the necessary approval of the Minister of Municipal Affairs had now been obtained, it would be in order to give further consideration to the "Tax Sale Lands Reserve Fund Expenditure By-law, 1976, No. 1424". Moved by Aiderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That. By-law No. 1424 be reconsidered, finally passed and adopted. Carried.
