Fast hockey action marks house playoffs THE ROUND ROBIN games from last week’s Midget House hockey playoffs can ar- guably be Ia- belled the best three games of the season. The — first meeting of the week was be- tween Team Blue and Team Red. These two teams played several close games in the regular season, but this one turned out to be the most intense of them all. Bath teams played great defensively in the first period and the goaltenders were superb. The game was scoreless after the first but things opened up in the second. With 10:00 left in the period, David Scafe scored for Team Blue to give his team the lead. Blue went ahead 2-0 late in the period on a hard-work goal from Adam Legge. The very next shift, Blue defenders let Red’s Jon Sarsiat get wide open in the neutral zone. Sarsiat picked up a pass from Corey Paulson and made no mistake on the breakaway attempt. With 1:20 left in the second the score was 2-1. Blue responded carly in the third ona goal from Eric Eide. At 17:11 Red’s Jon Sarsiat scored his second at 12:35, Jack Haworth scored to tie the game at 3. As they were gaining momentum, Red hit a tough break. With 6:46 to go, Ryan Beaulicu got strange-looking goal putting Blue ahead 4-3. With about a minute. to go and a face-off in the Blue end, ‘Red pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, Jack Haworth fed Sean Capser who wired a slap shot off the goalpost and in to tie the game with 28 seconds to go. It was a fantastic big for Red coming from behind to earn a 4-4 tie to. Team Blue. Red returned to the ice the next night to take on Team White. White didn’t look its best near the end of the regular sea- son, but was able to hold on and take top spat with a 4-point lead over Red. In this playoff meeting, the teams showed how little they liked each other. On the opening shift, White took the -AT THE ARENA. Red gat on the board at 5:13 on a Jack Haworth goal and it was a 2-1 hockey game. The physical factor was key in the second period. The only goal of the period . was at 13:39 from White’s Jon Marcellin. Jon Sarsiat scored carly in the third to cut the lead to 4-2. The intensity continued to build, with Red still very much in this contest until the 5:04 mark. Dan Matthews streaked down the wing and put the puck top shelf putting White in front 5-2. At 3:01, a bad giveaway re- sulted in Tyler Noble scoring a tip-in marker to put this game away. Though Red added another with five seconds left, it was White that would be victorious in this battle defeating Red 6-3. The final game of the week was be- tween Team White and Team Blue. The situation was simple. The winner would get the bye and be in the Mar. 12 cham- pionship game, while the loser would play Red in a one-game semi-final match up Mar. 11. A tie would put them in the final, so it was a must-win pame for Blue. Despite a solid performance by Blue goaltender Kevin Harrison, Team White dominated the game. Tysen Leblond got on the board for White at 9:11 of the first. White started to relax early in the third and Blue proved it on a goal at 13:29 from Ryan Beaulieu, That’s as close as Blue would come. Tysen Leblond capped off a hat trick with a slap shot goa! with iwo sec- onds remaining in the contest. Donny Van Dyk played solid between the pipes for White as they went on to defeat Blue 4-1. Neither team scored until 3:19 of the second when Jeff Myers added to White’s lead. With 1:23 to go in the middle frame, Kory Yamashita set up Tysen Le- blond with an impressive breakaway pass and Leblond capitalized. With two wins in the round robin, White earned a bye into the champion- ship game. Blue and Red each finished with a tie and a loss and played in Mon- day’s semi-final match up in which the winner would move on to play White in the season finale, Look for full details of these games in the next installment of At the Arena.
