New palliative care rooms ready TWO HOSPITAL rooms were recent- ly renovated and converted into pallia- tive care rooms so families can spend time with dying relatives. Over the years, the Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation, which raises money for health care equipment, has collected about $20,000 in donations lo design and decorate the palliative care rooms, Marilyn Davies of the Dr. R.E.M. Lee Foundation said the rooms will be greatly appreciated by all the families with loved ones passing away. “Something like this was badly needed at the bospital,’’? Davies said. “You really never know the value of a palliative care room until you need it”’ The hospital has always had a room for the dying, bul Davies said the pre- vious pailiative care room was tiny, just enough space for a bed and chair. The two new rooms are much larger, brighter and more appealing. There’s plenty of room for a large couch, three . chairs, tables and a TV, Each room also has a-- kitchen counter set up, dishes, food, a micra- wave oven and a bed for the paticnt. Both rooms were also painted, new Hooring was placed in one, and fresh drapes were hung. “We wanted something comfy and cozy,” said Judy Comfort from Totem Fumtiture who helped decorate, Davics said the actual value of pre- paring the rooms was more than what was actually spent because ‘of dona- ‘tions from various businesses. : “Literally everyone donated some- thing,” she said. OTROY-BILT ADRA looking for donations to help Kosovo refugees By Pastor Jelt Pots ADVENTIST Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is undertaking its largest humanitarian project ever to help Kosovo refugees. The agency, which is the humanitarian arn of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, was appointed by the United Nations as the main supplier of food to the Albanian tefugees. This week alone ADRA will serve two million ready-to-eat meals. Both Serbs and Albanians wark for ADRA tclief services inside Kosovo to help reach all in necd...regardless of nation- ality, As a result of the desperate need, the Ter- race Seventh-day Adventist Church has launched an appeal to further assist the Kosova crisis. Pastor Jeff Potts who is the local ADRA rep, said there is need for money, not food. ‘Food is plentiful and cheap in Albania,”’ Potts said. ‘‘Being there is far cheaper than shipping it in.” ADRA spends little lime boasting about what it accomplishes, but in ibis case it is worth letting people know whal is being done and what the citizens of Terrace can do to alleviate the suffering. Donations can be mailed to: ADRA Can- ada, Kosovo Relief, 1148-King Street East,. Oshawa, Ontario L1H 1H8." All donations * will go strictly to Kosovo.
