Trojans place fourth The Terrace Trojans ladies hockey team took fourth place at a seven- team ladies‘ hockey tour- nament in Fort St. James recently. Terrace posted a two-win, ‘two-loss record, The Trojans started by shutting out the Prince George ‘‘B’ team 3-0. Then they lost a tight 3-2 game to Hudson Hope. In game three the Tro- jans beat their arch rivals from Prince Rupert by a 2-1 score. In their final outing, they dropped a ' 4-0 decision to Chet- wynd. Prince George ‘‘A’’ team won the series, with Chetwynd second and Hudson Hope third. Prince Rupert placed sixth. Mixed Curting Championships. - Boys’ basketball | teams runners-up It was second-place finishes for the junior high school Skeena Tsimpseans and senior high school Caledonia Kermodes at the out-of- town basketball tour- naments on the Jan. 18 weekend. Tsimpseans Skeena competed in a four-team, round-robin series at Fulton school in Vernon, and came through with a two-win, one-loss record. They ran into Palmer of Richmond in game two and posted a 53-45 win. The high scorers were Manhas, Hogg and Davis with 14, 13 and 10, respectively, The host Fulton team ended Skeena’s win streak by a 75-59 score in their third game. Hoff and Manhas each con- tributed 16 points to Tsimpseans’ total, Because three teams emerged with two-win, one-loss records, the winner was decided by giving the championship to the team allowing the fewest points against. Palmer, despite having lost to Skeena, got the ti- tle while the Terrace con- tingent settled for second spot. 'Manhas and Hogg were named to the all- star team, and Pat Carey won the hotshot award. Manhas won the foul- shooting contest by can- ning 52 out of 60 shots. Manhas also teamed up with Dewacht to win the two-on-two contest, The team later travell- ed to Kelowna and the lower mainland for more action. A story on this will appear next week. Kermodes The Caledonia Ker- modes were defeated by a Manitoba team in their eight-team appearance at the Coca-Cola Invita- tional series in Chil- liwack. The Kermodes starte by pounding Powell River 88-57 after running up a 41-33 halftime lead. Harry Dahmi led the way with a 16-point ef- fort, Dave Kirkaldy and Chris McDonald each contributed a dozen. In the semi-final the Kermodes came up against their hosts. Chilliwack grabbed a 36-35 lead at the half, but the Kermodes took a three-point margin into the final minute. They held on for a 68-65 vic- tory. Kirkaldy set the pace with 18 points. Kent _ Aird chipped in with 10. This set up the final against Winnipeg. The Manitobans took a 46-40 margin at the halfway mark, and went on to down the Kermodes 84-65. Kirkaldy had 22 points, while McDonald came up with a dozen and Dahmi had 11. Kirkaldy won a berth on the first all-star team, while Dahmi was named to the second all-star squad. Booth wins Skeena Prince Rupert Booth’s Grade-10 team came on to win the six-team Skeena junior girls’ highschool basketball tournament on the Jan. 18 weekend by beating Skeena’s Tsimpseans 53-21 in the title game. In the playoff for third place, Kitimat Junior Orcas defeated Booth Grade 9s 36-21, Teams were spilt into three-team divisions for round-robin play to Start, In division ‘‘A’’, Booth ‘‘B’’ lost 39-29 to Skeena; Booth ‘‘B”’ beat Hazelton 27-14; and Skeena downed Hazel- ton 43-13. In division ‘'B’’, Booth 10s whipped Ket- chikan 70-34, then defeated Kitimat Orcas 51-25. Ketchikan edged the Orcas §2-50 in the third game. in a traditional opening ceremony, the al ee ght representative teams for the B.C. Mixe Curling Championships were piped onto the Ice on Friday, Jan. 17. Peewee hockey On Saturday, Feb. 1 from 8 a.m, to 9 a.m. Dave’s Peewee hockey team takes on the Kinsmen players. At 9 a.m. it’s the Kinsmen versus the Lions. On Saturday, Feb. 8 the Kinsmen play the Lions at 8 a.m, and at 9 a.m. the Lions take on Dave’s in the Peewee Pup ice hockey division.
