SMITHERS: - Of particular interest to recreation commission Province is the appointment of the Honorable Pat Jordan, Minister without Portfolio, to the Community Recreation Branch. Mrs. Jordan has accepted the responsibility of assisting the Hon, Ken Kiernan, Minister of Travel Industry, study recreation in the Province and make recommendations to the members in, Terrace and around the: top echelons of Government. . Mrs. Jordan’s appointment is a milestone in the development of recreation services in this Province, Since her appointment to the Branch last spring, Mrs, Jordan has attended several recreation gatherings throughout the Province. One such gathering - was our recent Northwest Parks and Recreation Conference at Smithers. From her participation at the Conference, it was cbvious that she is sincerely interested in recreation at the local level. It .waS also evident that she believes in the “face to face’ method of communications rather than the “‘via_ the channels” approach, Although - the results of Mrs, Jordan's association with the Branch are still! undetermined, it seems. evident that a Cabinet Minster with her interest in recreation has excellent potential to help, improve services to recreation commissions. . The advent of two recreation . oriented Funds (Fitness - Sports- and ‘Cultural Arts). plus . the appointment of the Hon, ‘Pat . Jordon to the recreation sphere is evidence that, provineially,. leisure pursuits have reached a new status. The next few years could bring many changes in services to commissions. . Following are: several comments made by the Hon. recreation Pat Jordan during a_ radio -interview at Smithers: Q. Is there ‘any particular: reason why the government chose you to work with the Community Reereation Branch? ‘ A. It certainly isn’t because I'ma magical figure of shysical. fitness.
