Oda Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women As Premier of the province of British Columbia, | would like to welcome everyone to the 17th annual Festival d’été franco- phone de Vancouver. Since 1990, this Festival has brought excellent Francophone music to the west coast. | am sure that this year’s event will once again bring together thousands of people to enjoy ten fabulous French Canadian days of entertainment, celebration and festivity. As a province, we recently marked the importance of the French language with the proclamation of la Journée de la Francophonie. It is important to take time to appreciate the contributions of the francophone community to British Columbia. Events such as the Festival d’été francophone de Vancou- ver give British Columbians the opportunity to celebrate the cultural heritage and diversity of our province and our nation. | would like to recognize the organizers of this wonderful event, Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver, for their energy and enthusiasm in coor- dinating this festival every year.
