THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM October 3lst, 1980 C 0 U N C REPORT ad 3 1980 TO: Mayor and Council FROM: Parks & Recreation Committee re: 1981 Lacrosse Season & Bantam Tournament The Parks & Recreation Committee have received a request from the Minor Hockey Association for the 1981 Bantam Tournament from Tuesday, April 14th, to Saturday, April 18th, 1981 (please see attached letters). We have also received a letter from the Minor Lacrosse Association indicat- ing that their league starts April 21st, 1981. Junior and Intermediate Lacrosse start league play April 27th, 1981. The Minor Hockey Association has chosen these dates’ as the Spring Break runs from April 10th through April 20th, 1981. . . As you can see the Committee faces a dilemma .in regard to the conflict in dates with the Bantam Tournament and Lacrosse. There are several problem areas which the Committee would like to identify for Council: 1: In previous years the ice season has finished at the end of March with the Winter Carnival. This year Winter Carnival has requested April 4th and Sth; this would mean that from April Ist to 2nd and April 6th through to April 13th we would have virtually no ice bookings. 2. The Bantam Tournament would like to run on April 17th which is Good Friday and would mean that staff would be paid triple time. Last year the Tournament ran on Good Friday and it was an extremely expensive cost in regard to staff. If the Bantam Tournament were to go through to April 18th, it would mean that there would only be two days to get the ice out and dried for lacrosse season. Continued...
