THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM February 13, 1976. REPORT TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL FROM: LEISURE ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE During the Latter part of 1975, the Community Recreation Council took, as one of its profects, the study of uses for the 180 acres of Nature Resewe. A sub- committee was formed from the Community Recreation .to thoroughly investigate the uses, The Leisure Activities Committee has received their report (see attached) and wishes to make the following recommendations: 1, The Nature Reserve to remain in its natural state and that there should be as Little wonk done as possible. Only enough work should be done to keep the paths 4n good wakking condition, and the area tidy and clean. 2. That the clean up of the Nature Reserve he the nesponsibislLity of the City and further, that this be done ona regular basis. 3. That garbage cans not be placed throught the Nature Reserve as it was strongly gelt that these would be vandalized and cneate mone of a mess. 4. That a survey of existing paths be done by the Parks and Recreation Departments and that members of the Recreation Counct2 be invited to assist. Committee does not recommend that any new paths be enxeated until the inventory of existing paths 48 finished. . 5. Existing paths which ane in poor condition be upgraded. 6. That signs be faced at oppropriate entrances to the Nature Reserve. (Wording of Sign 45 attached) These signs to be similar in colour and design as those of the Provincial Government "voint of interest” signs. 7. That a by-law be drafted for the Nature Reserwe indicating things that are not permitted to take pkace in the reserve. This by-Law would be similar to the present City Parks by-ZLaw. &. That the City of Pont Coquitlam apply for a water License for Hyde Creek. PLease See attached memorandum from the City Administrator. The Leisure Activties Committee will be disarssing fine access with the Fine Chief when he returns from vacation. Also, the Committee will be contacting the Fisheries Department to obtain signs from them which can be posted along the Creek at different Locations durings the spawning season. These signs, apparently, State the dangers of handling the fish during the spawning season.
