Adding a Rajah and Counselor to them gives the six archetypes that all chess pieces have evolved from. Although names, shapes and powers of pieces have changed the chess figures themselves still number six and are still symbolic of the archetypal images of a battle ready kingdom. The game spread to Persia Arabia and into Europe with each country changing the powers of the various figures and the rules of the game. By the 1600's rule changes had transformed the game into a contest similar to the chess that is known today. In 1929 a uniform code of rules was established, including pro- visions governing allotted thinking times.
