PARTICIPANT EXPENDITURES Total festival spending reported by weekend participants was estimated to be almost $250,000. This amount includes visitor spending in and out of Nanaimo and resident spending. In addition, a total of $10,373 was collected from the 1,435 students who visited the Festival on Thursday and Friday. Consequently, the total gross spending by all festival participants is evaluated at $260,373. It is important to note that the economic impact of the festival is calculated using only visitor expenditures. The survey results and participant numbers indicate that weekend visitors spent an estimated total of $196,000. As for the student participants to the Festival there were 644 students from the Nanaimo area and 791 students coming from outside the Nanaimo area. As a result, the student expenditures amount to be retained in the calculation of the direct impact is $5,718. The total amount of visitor expenditures in the Nanaimo area is $201,718, the sum of weekend visitor spending ($196,000) and student visitor spending ($5,718). This amount represents 77% of total spending by all Festival participants. HOST ORGANIZATION INCOME & EXPENDITURES The host organization reported total income of $298,265. This amount includes in- kind donations and excludes volunteer labour. @ CASH INCOME Total cash income was $144,518. It is estimated that 74% of this income represents new money injected into the economy from outside sources.
