SUBJECT: Election details and Polling Procedures

RECOMMENDATION:

That His Worship the Mayor appoint a Council Committee to
recommend changes required to the City's Election and
Polling Procedures. a

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: .'

The City's present procedures with respect to Elections and
Polling have been in effect for many years, now and ‘while they have, in
the main served the City well there are one or two matters that require
review, and possibly change. We have held this view for sometime now
and each Election various candidates and members of Council. comment
upon some’ changes that should be considered but consideration of these
items is usually put.to one side during the rush of the years business.

We have always been reluctant ‘to initiate changes - or even
the discussion of possible changes ~ as this could be. seen in some eyes
to be an interference with the Election process. However, since the need
for review becomes more apparent with each passing year we are taking the.
liberty of suggesting the above noted recommendation.
