CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: -SFHU re cancell- From the Simon Fraser Heaith Unit, April 21st, 1976, advising that ‘ation-WIG Program , ‘—mosquito ‘control the 1976 Work in Government (W.I.G.) Program was cancelled with the immediate consequence that the Surveillance and Larviciding segment of the Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam Mosquito Control Program is eliminated; however, a possible solution may be to have the Councils of Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam pool together funds for a grant to the Union Board of Health so that students could be hired to maintain the programme for four months at an estimated cost of $13,000.00. Alderman Traboulay advised that the matter had been discussed at the April 13th, 1976 meeting of the Union Board of Health, and he proposed the following motion: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the draft letter prepared by Alderman L.M. Traboulay requesting that the Department of Health fund the 1976 Work in Government Program with respect to the Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam Mosquito Control Program this year, be sent to The Honourable R.H. McClelland, Minister of Health, together with a copy of a letter dated April 21st, 1976 from the Simon Fraser Health Unit relevant to this subject, and that copies of the said letters also be sent to Mr. George Kerster, M.L.A., Coquitlam. Carried. Prior to passage of the. foregoing resolution, a discussion ensued, and Alderman Ranger stated he felt the Provincial Government should be spending some money to try and relieve unemployment, particularly where students are concerned, Alderman Keryluk expressed disappointment that the programme had been cancelled, and Alderman Thompson stated he felt the programme should go ahead with recompense being sought from the Provincial Government. Mayor Campbell advised he would be going to Victoria tomorrow and would discuss the matter with the appropriate authorities. Alderman Mabbett stated he felt that as the City was faced with a tight budget year, funds could not be made available for the programme; however, Mayor Campbell advised that Mayor Tonn of the District of Coquitlam had suggested that the Environmental Committees of both the District and City of Port Coquitlam weet to discuss the satter further.
